There is something peaceful and mysterious about chairs. In fact, I would love to do a series on chairs. I have painted quite a few, but this one for some reason appeals to my senses. Most artists wouldn’t like the chair to be off the edge, but I purposely put it there to cause a little tension in an environment that is supposed to be calm. Strange, that is the same impression I felt at Hearst Castle. There was calmness and beauty there, perhaps being by the ocean allowed that energy. The gardens were amazing with roses in full bloom. But, when you entered the rooms and verandas, you realize there must have been a lot of secrets and mysterious hiding. I could feel the presence of the guests’ spirits. When I painted the chairs I tried to instill a little of that mystery and beauty at the same time, empty chairs they maybe aren’t so empty.
Love this painting. The chairs don’t feel empty at all to me, especially the one on the right. Great job. :o)
So much feeling in a painting. I love chairs! I would someday love to have a wall dedicated to some of the various chairs that have become famous throughout the centuries.
Love this work Janet, and yep I can sense some anticipation in the chairs, just waiting for someone or something to plop into their seats. Maybe a lazy, fluffly, fat cat!!!
Thank you Chris 🙂
I’m so gald you like it Sarah, you are inspiring me to paint more chairs.
